A Veritable Bouquet of Quotes, for Any Occasion

Hello again dear Reader! As advertised in the title of this post, this is indeed a collection of my favorite quotes. I admit, it is rather a cheap trick to use the words of others on a blog professedly my own, but, fortunately for me, I will pay no mind.

I am, of my own admittance, a logophile. A lover of words. As such, I take great pleasure in the arrangement of clever sayings. There is nothing like the feeling of reading something you have felt, written by someone else's hand. It produces a sense of camaraderie with ones whom I have never met. And thus, this post begins its life. Whether or not its life is a long one is up to you, Reader. And so, let us commence.

"I love words. I like looking at them. I like the sounds of them. It's not even a question of whether I'm good at wielding them, I just like being around them."

This quote comes from Jonathan Auxier, and none could more accurately describe my feelings. He is a wonderful and delightful author; I would recommend him highly. Choicest among his works (in my humble opinion) are Sweep: the Story of a Girl and Her Monster, and The Night Gardener. The second is rather creepy. :)

And next we have Poe. I am not sure if he wrote this one or found it. But nevertheless, as it is written at the beginning of his story "The Fall of the House of Usher", I will credit him with it. I believe it was originally in French when I read it.

"His heart is a suspended lute: As soon as we touch it, it resonates."

How poetic and slightly ominous that sounds. I am not entirely sure what it means, but that does not stop me from liking it.

"Life is a mess and a miracle, so pick up a broom and dance."

This quote comes from a book I read many many years ago. It was called The Rise and Fall of Mount Majestic, by Jennifer Trafton. To own the truth, I cannot recall what it was about. There was something about tunnels, and I believe it involved a great deal of food.

"You'll find that the only thing you can do easily is be wrong, and that's hardly worth the effort."

Oh The Phantom Tollbooth. What a lovely wordplay-filled story. I recommend that one as well. I'm realizing that this isn't so much quotes as it is book recommendations. I hope, Reader, you do not mind. This quote is the perfect thing to say when your friend or family member is bemoaning the difficulty of life, school, or any other trivial complaint.

"Life is hardly a Victorian novel where all must be revealed."

Next time a sibling becomes too nosy, you know what to say. Use with caution. This quote comes from the book Just Like That, by Gary D. Schmidt. He is one of my very favorite authors. His way of writing is so beautiful and all of his books contain deeper truths.

I do hope you've enjoyed this post and that it brought you some small degree of entertainment. I shall perhaps do another one of this variety, featuring different quotes. Do let me know in the comments if you would like to see more of these posts, or if you have read one of the books referenced herein! If you have enjoyed reading The Collected Thoughts of Thea Knightley, tell your family or like-minded friends.
